A Major Breaking News Story

When we see a weather report that says a huge storm is coming to our area, we do not normally think, “Oh boy, that’s good news!” But, in one sense it is very “good news.” It is good news because it warns us of impending danger in time for us to do something about it. Jesus said,

The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel.

Mark 1:15

The Gospel contains ideas, and the Gospel makes an argument. But first and foremost the Gospel is GOOD NEWS! It is good news because, if you are hearing it, there is still time to escape the impending storm of God’s wrathful judgment which is righteously due to all of us. Because we have sinned against God, the “Good News” should be the “lead story” every day of our lives:

For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

I Corinthians 15:3-4

The Big Announcement

I have an exciting announcement to make! This announcement is better than lower gas prices. It’s better than a new baby in the family. It’s better than a cure for cancer! In fact, it is an announcement that was made a long time ago.

And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.

Luke 2:10

If you understand the consequences of sin (despair, destruction, death, and damnation), then this announcement is the best tiding of greatest joy you could possibly hear. Jesus Christ came into the world to save sinners (I Timothy 1:15)! You can, by believing the Truth of the Bible, and by placing your faith and trust in Him, be reconciled to God, and escape eternal punishment (Matthew 25:46)!

Give Him Your Heart

Proverbs 23:26 says, “My son, give me thine heart, and let thine eyes observe my ways.” This is the plea of an earthly parent to his child, but God may be saying the same thing to you today. Have you given the Lord your heart? If so, do you know when, where, and can you describe it in detail?

Maybe you never have. Maybe everybody you know thinks you’re a Christian, but you know you’re not, and God knows you’re not. Your sin has separated you from God. Jesus Christ took your sin on Himself, and He took the punishment for it in your place on the Cross. He was sinless and perfect, yet He was tortured and crucified for every sin you and I ever committed.

The good news is that God accepted Him as the perfect and only possible sacrifice for sin, and showed His acceptance by resurrecting Him from the dead. He lives today, and you have only two choices: You must believe on Him, rejecting your own self-righteousness, or you must reject Him.
